About Sri Lanka Association of Australia Awards Alumni (SLAAAA)

Our Profile

SLAAAA

Sri Lanka Association of Australia Awards Alumni (SLAAAA) serves as an umbrella alumni association for all Australia Awards awardees from Sri Lanka. The Australia Awards Scholarships has been an important component of the Australian Government’s official development assistance program to Sri Lanka since the Colombo Plan initiative in the 1950s.

The Australia Awards program promotes knowledge, education links and enduring ties between Australia, its neighbors and the global community. Since its inception, over 600 candidates from both the public and private sectors have studied in Australia under the program and are part of the SLAAAA.

The Association seeks to strengthen the bonds between the alumni both locally as well as internationally and to create opportunities for intellectual and cultural exchange between Sri Lanka and Australia. A platform provides members with opportunities for professional development whilst building networks to collectively contribute towards the development of Sri Lanka.

SLAAAA President’s Message

Dear Members,

The Sri Lanka Association of Australia Awards Alumni (SLAAAA) has bestowed on me a great honour by electing me as the President of the SLAAAA for 2020. I accept this prestigious post with humility and courage. I acknowledge the immense services the Past Presidents and the councils of the SLAAAA have rendered with admirable commitment, steering the association to great heights. With the help of my Committee, I will do my best to ensure that I am a worthy successor. Australia Awards are prestigious international scholarships, and short courses offered to generate global leaders. We at SLAAAA represent a community that consists of spirited professionals who are well equipped and geared to contribute to the growth and development of numerous sectors in Sri Lanka.

I will serve the SLAAAA to the best of my ability and fulfill all the aims and the objectives of the association. It is my fervent wish and that many SLAAAA members will participate in this event as it gives all of us an excellent opportunity to express our immeasurable gratitude to Australia for giving us this opportunity. Hence, I look forward to your active participation and contribution to future events and efforts towards achieving the objectives of the SLAAAA.

The Theme for 2020 is “Promoting Health and Wellbeing.” A number of events have been lined up, keeping in mind the vision mission, goals, and objectives of SLAAAA this year.

Today, as the world faces a pandemic, our theme of promoting health and wellbeing is strangely fitting; it’s a trying time for all. It’s a disorienting and daunting time where we face a myriad of challenges, including controlling the spread of the disease, economic hardship, and ensuing social stressors. While strenuous, this can also be considered an opportunity for recuperation and reflection, as well as an occasion to plan for the future while also being grateful for what we have.

We at SLAAAA will contribute to ensuring the Health and Wellbeing of our members, as well as society at large, to the best of our ability.

I wish you well during this challenging time. Stay safe !!!

Dr. Anuji Gamage
President SLAAAA
